Hey...you can get a secured credit card (I know BoA offers them). Also try getting a landline phone - with basic local service. Both of these worked for me.
(Now I have credit card offers beating down on my door everyday)

Like some said" Its just a matter of time".Without EAD one cannt work if u are on a dependent visa.Regarding credit rating ,u can open a macys account or get credit card from the bank where u hold ur account.i had the same problem with credit card/score.Although it will take time unless u are ready to spend lot of bucks in macys.;-)

Well... I don't know if you realize... but, you had it easy, being a dependant... you did not need to walk around a lot or use 'public' transport (which depending on the place, sometimes may be non-existent)... and you had a cell phone on family plan...!

Imagine being stranded some place without a cellphone and without any means of transport... b'cos you got down at the wrong stop and the next bus was an hour down the line....!!

You'll make it through. There a similar hoops for things like starting a business, dealing with the bureaucracy of school here, changing your last name and may other things. You learn to grin and bear it. Much like child birth (I've heard) once it's over you often forget the pain of the process and just enjoy the result. On the upside there are valuable lesions of patience and endurance that you learn through out the journey. I wish you the best though.....

You should write the same article again, once you have all the documents and is pretty much settled down into a routine with a job, credit cards, license, credit history.. etc.. (forget the health care). India is flexible no doubts about it.. but ..
